This new contract will keep him at the club until 2023, according to reports in Spain.
The Argentina forward current deal runs until the end of next season. And Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has been desperately trying to convince him to sign new terms.
Messi had the option to enable a release clause that would have allowed him to leave this summer. His active contract expired on June 10.
According to reports in Spain, Messi has agreed on a new contract that will see him stay at the Nou Camp for a further two years.
Spanish tabloid Mundo Deportivo claims the new deal will be the same terms as his current contract. Messi’s new contract will have an option to terminate his deal if he decides to leave.
