Thomas Tuchel is at least 90 minutes away from reaching his second Champions League final if he can past Real Madrid.

The Chelsea boss will be keen to equal his record back when he was PSG manager and look to beat that after losing last season’s final to Bayern Munich.

The Blues go into this match with an away goal advantage after the first leg finished 1-1 but Tuchel knows just how important the next match is to define his side’s season.

He said: “The best thing is that they really feel it, and they did it during the first-half. I think we all together felt we could be stronger in the second-half.

“We rested some players, and now we have three days in between, so the challenge will be to keep the intensity going throughout the whole match.

“It is important, it’s a semi-final, the pressure’s on, it’s a knockout game.

“It’s the second leg, the decisive one, so to arrive with a certain level of belief and self-confidence is absolutely necessary. Otherwise we have no chance against a team like Real Madrid. It does not help so much if your coach is talking about it, we need to really feel it.

“If I talk about it it’s only because I’m sure they feel it, and we can see it in the games, that the team is self-aware and able to produce performances, then they are also aware of the challenge ahead of us.

“It’s the best feeling to arrive with an almost full squad, in good shape, with a good performance and an okay result in the first-leg.

“So everything is open now for the second leg.

“I’m very happy that we could beat Fulham in between so we have nothing to worry about, nothing to regret. Now’s the moment today to enjoy training and be ready tomorrow.”
