There were scenes of celebration outside Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night after Chelsea reached the Champions League semi-final.
N’Golo Kante was one of the Blues’ star performers against Real Madrid, putting in a typically lung-busting display to help secure a 2-0 victory.
The 30-year-old played a key part in the first goal, surging forward before playing in Kai Havertz, whose delicately chipped shot bounced off the crossbar for Timo Werner to head home.
Kante then also had a role in the winner, teeing up Christian Pulisic, whose cut-back was finished by Mason Mount.
The unassuming Frenchman has always been popular due to his modesty, which was on display once again as he drove out of Stamford Bridge in a white Mini Cooper, only to be mobbed by Blues fans.
In scenes that have gone viral online, police can be seen ushering Chelsea fans out of the road in order to create a path for Kante to drive through.
Chanting Kante’s name as he passed them, one fan sprayed champagne over the midfielder’s car.
Kante then joined in the celebrations himself, beeping in recognition of the fans as they marked a famous night in the club’s history.
All in all, it was classic Kante to put in a man-of-the-match display against Real Madrid before driving out of the stadium in an unassuming car that would not be given a second glance if it was parked on the street.
His performance helped to prove his former Blues teammate Cesc Fabregas right.
The Spaniard, who spent two years with Kante at Stamford Bridge, predicted the World Cup winner would be man of the match.
He tweeted: “My man of the match prediction is N’Golo Kante. He played very well in the first leg and is a world class player.
“His energy in midfield will be key to winning this game for Chelsea.”
