N’Golo Kante produced yet another man of the match display, doing so in both legs of the Champions League semi-final, as Chelsea dispatched La Liga side Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate.
The popular Frenchman was everywhere during the second leg clash at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea booked their place in the showpiece final at the end of this month.
And Chelsea supporters have applauded o ne particular moment of brilliance in the 66 th minute of his side’s 2-0 victory.
It was a moment that epitomised his relentless show of energy on the night and was one of the many times he helped his team successfully transition defence into a dangerous attack.
Following a well cleared corner, Timo Werner came out on top in a 50/50 challenge with German maestro Toni Kroos, and then proceeded to carry the ball to the edge of the Madrid penalty area. He had Kai Havertz to his right, and Kante to his left, but only after the midfielder had completely left Luka Modric in his wake.
Werner played in Kante, and the Frenchman’s low shot forced a solid stop from former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Had the result gone differently, fans may have regretted that miss. Instead, they are celebrating the fact that he made Modric look like a bit of a fool in the build-up.
The Croatian failed in an attempt to pull the Chelsea man back on the halfway line, something that perfectly summarised the problems Kante caused him all night long.
It’s even more impressive knowing that Kante actually started his run behind Modric – he just simply couldn’t keep up.
This went down well with Chelsea fans on Reddit, who posted a video of the moment with their reactions to it.
Bvincepl said: “Modric reaching to Kante mid-run is like how Real Madrid [are] reaching [for] the Champions League trophy running away from them.”
Chac43 said: “Kante can run fast man.”
LethalCaribou said: “I was so desperate for him to score that, what a way it would’ve been to cap off another world class performance.”
Fans will be hoping for more of the same in the final. Now that Kante has shown he can pocket a trio of world class players in Kroos, Modric and Casemiro over two legs, he’ll surely be confident that he can put in another big performance on May 29.
