Bruno Fernandes thinks Jesse Lingard is ‘the best player in the Premier League’ at the moment, as he snubbed some of Chelsea’s in-form stars.
Lingard left Manchester United in January to join West Ham on loan and has been a revelation for the high-flying Hammers ever since. The 28-year-old’s form has put him in serious contention for a starting place at this summer’s European Championships with England.
However, he’ll have to fight it out with the likes of Mason Mount and Phil Foden, who have also been terrific in recent months. For some supporters, it might come as a surprise that Mount wasn’t the man Fernandes named as the best player in the division on current form.
The 22-year-old has been superb since Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea, carrying on from when Frank Lampard put his trust in the former Derby County loanee.
But Fernandes has chosen his United team-mate as the Premier League’s hottest property right now.
“If you see Jesse, I think Jesse, at the moment, if you watch the last 10 games, has been top, top, top level,” Fernandes told MUTV. “For me, if you watch the last 10 games, he’s been the best player in the Premier League, scoring and assists in every game.
“Everyone here is really, really happy for him. He has confidence back, he has his swag back, because he is feeling confident.
“We are really, really happy for what he’s doing.”
It is set to be a really difficult decision for Gareth Southgate at the Euros, with England possessing so much talent in Lingard and Mount’s position.
Southgate will also consider the likes of Foden, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho to play either side of Harry Kane for the Three Lions.
