Vicente Guaita: Miscommunication with Dann forced a corner early on. Could do nothing about Ings’ equaliser, but made two good saves in two minutes soon after, diving low to his left both times to save driven efforts. Had little chance with the second, and was beaten by the third. 6
Joel Ward: Had a somewhat ambitious effort from 25 yards on the volley, but found the target even if Forster saved easily. A good battle up against Redmond in the first half. Made a few good blocks. 6
Cheikhou Kouyate: Didn’t get anywhere near tight enough to Ings for the opener, allowing him space to turn and finish. A nice pass in behind for Ayew in the second half. Booked after getting flustered in the second half. 5
Scott Dann: A good header back across goal to find Benteke for the opener. Should perhaps have reacted quicker to clear when Guaita didn’t come for a loose ball, giving away a corner instead. Did well to block a shot when the marking was all at sea after a corner. Decent in the second half. 6
Tyrick Mitchell: Struggled a little in the first half with Walker-Peters pushing far up the pitch and Southampton’s front line causing problems. Had to deal with a changing line up in front of him. 5
Luka Milivojevic: A nicely-lofted free-kick for the opener. Played a well-disguised pass for Ayew, that led to a corner, and then did well to stop a Southampton counter from it. A shame that his fairly poor penalty blighted an otherwise good first half. Brought off in the second half as Hodgson went on the front foot. 5
Jairo Riedewald: A fairly quiet first half. Just unable to reach to get on the end of a pass from Eze. A so-so performance in the second half as Palace went in search of an equaliser. 5
Ebere Eze: A little on the periphery in the opening half. Had a couple of chances with set-piece delivery and did fairly well, but Forster found it easy to punch clear his free-kick from a dangerous position. Almost found Riedewald in behind with a nice lobbed pass. Did well to work it out of a tight situation for Ayew in the second half. 7
Jordan Ayew: Did pretty well in spurts in the first half, proving a bit of a nuisance down the right without really threatening. Did well to win a series of corners, but his delivery needs to be better when he has a chance to cross. Too often hit the first man. 6
Christian Benteke: Had an effort in the first minute fly just wide. And followed it up a minute later with some great control and a fine low finish to open the scoring early on for the second game in a row. A decent performance, but should have done better with his chances in the second half, heading straight at Forster and missing a gilt-edged chance to level the scores. 7
Wilfried Zaha: Didn’t get on the ball as much as he’d like in the first half, and was fouled nearly every time he did get it. Did well to cut inside and win a penalty under a challenge from Redmond. Was brought down again in a promising position in the second half with Vestergaard getting booked. Put a dangerous ball across goal that didn’t get a reward it deserved. Frustration was building for much of the second half, and boiled over as he shoved a Southampton player to the ground, picking up a yellow card in the process before haranguing the referee. 7
Jeff Schlupp: Immediately injected some impetus into the team.
Michy Batshuayi: Brought on with Palace chasing the game but had little impact.
Jean-Philippe Mateta: Brought on at 3-1 down but had little chance to effect proceedings.
