Thomas Tuchel has transformed Chelsea in the four short months he’s been at the club. Now with a Champions League and FA Cup double a real possibility, the Blues have been tipped as potential domestic champions once again.
Rio Ferdinand recently predicted that Chelsea will triumph over both Manchester clubs to regain the Premier League title in the 2021-2022 season, as he said on his Vibe With Five podcast.
“Have you seen Chelsea’s stats? They’re my team to win the league next year,” Ferdinand explained. “Since Tuchel’s come they’re top of almost every category: goals conceded, chances created. What he’s done going in there deserves nothing but applause.”
Although former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher hasn’t been anywhere near as bold as Ferdinand, he does estimate that the West London outfit will be stout stayers in next year’s title race.
When asked about whether Chelsea could break into that challengers bracket on Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “Oh yeah, I really do think so.
“It’s looked for the last couple of seasons that no-one could really match City at certain times, Liverpool have for a couple of years, but I think we’ve got now maybe two or three other teams besides Liverpool who could really match Manchester City.”
Of course, predictions are just predictions. But with what Tuchel’s done already, and the likely possibility that he will be properly backed in the transfer market by owner Roman Abramovich to impose his own imprint on this Chelsea side, you can’t help but think that the Blues will be there or thereabouts come May next year.
