Chelsea will be looking to move one step closer to nailing down a top-four finish in the Premier League this season when they lock horns with London rivals Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Blues, who were beaten 3-1 by the Gunners in the reverse fixture earlier this season on Boxing Day, will be looking to build on Saturday’s impressive 2-1 away win over Manchester City.

A last-gasp winner from left wing-back Marcos Alonso sealed all three points for Thomas Tuchel’s side after Hakim Ziyech had cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opener for the hosts.

Victory at the home of the newly-crowned Premier League champions means that Tuchel, who was appointed as Frank Lampard’s successor at Stamford Bridge towards the end of January, has now won 17 of his first 25 games in charge, losing just twice.

The German has had a remarkable impact at Stamford Bridge, turning this crop of Chelsea players from mid-table sitters to genuine top-four contenders, as well as guiding them to both the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals.

In all honesty, Tuchel’s impact in west London has not probably come as too great a surprise to Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who will be hoping to return to the starting line-up this evening after being left on the bench against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday evening.

Aubameyang, who has experienced a difficult campaign, worked with Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund and knows all about how he wants his teams to play and get the better of opponents.

As well as knowing how Tuchel works inside out, Aubameyang also previously compared his former boss to Manchester City chief Pep Guardiola, admitting that their styles are “similar.”

“He is one of the best coaches I have ever had, I cannot deny his talent,” Aubameyang told SFR Sport back in 2018. “He could be a good fit with PSG, but if he goes on the adventure, we’ll have to see how he keeps the changing room together, I think that’s the hardest thing at a big club.

“He is a bit crazy, just like me.

“You could say that his style is similar to that of Guardiola, they let their teams play in the same way, he likes to be on the ball and to play football, whatever happens, he has the qualities, it’s up to now him to prove it.”

Although Aubameyang made those remarks about Tuchel upon the German’s arrival at Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, a lot of what he said then still stands true today.

Tuchel has proven that he has no shortage of managerial qualities, with his arrival in the Premier League having forced almost everyone to sit up and take notice of just what he has achieved in such a short space of time.

As well as that, Tuchel has also proven that he has the knowhow of how to get the better of Guardiola, beating him twice since landing the Chelsea job, leading his side to victories over City in both the FA Cup and Premier League.

Given that Aubameyang knows all about the way Tuchel operates and gets his teams singing off the same hymn sheet, he could well be having one or two quiet words in the ears of his Gunners teammates ahead of kick-off this evening.
