The Chelsea manager said: “Andreas’ was better than we feared. We hope he’ll be back for one of the two Leicester games.

“It will be a tough one but the season isn’t finished for him hopefully. We have a realistic hope that the season is not over for him.”

The former Rennes star was included in the ex-Manchester United defender’s best XI of the season.

Neville said: “For me, Mendy, because I think Chelsea, with the goalkeeper they had [Kepa Arrizabalaga], had massive issues and they would not be where they are at.

“To be fair, since he’s come in, their fortunes, defensively, have changed, Tuchel has made them brilliant defensively and he’s a big part of that.

“The impact on Chelsea, getting to a Champions League final, finishing where they are now in the league compared to where they are.
