Mikel Arteta is set for an overhaul at Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have endured a difficult season and sit ninth in the Premier League table ahead of their London derby with Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Arteta will be keen to remould his squad in the summer, although there is a likelihood that he will have to sell before he can buy, with finances tight as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Arteta’s job in terms of getting players off the wage bill may be made easier by them wanting to leave.

According to the Athletic as many as five senior players want to leave the Emirates this summer, with the publication naming David Luiz, Willian, Bernd Leno, Granit Xhaka and Hector Bellerin as those who could be heading out of the exit door.

Bellerin has been linked with a move away from the Emirates before, with Barcelona tipped to make a move to take him back to Catalonia.

The right-back started his career with Barca and has long been linked with returning one day.

That day may come this summer, with Bellerin hinting that he would be open to a return to Spain in the past.

Speaking to El Mundo in 2017, he was asked about his future, saying: “You never know what can happen.

“The truth is that all the top level players want to play the Champions League, especially when I’ve spent two years in. As a team we have not achieved qualification, and it is something that we all want to fix, but as a player I repeat that it is an important competition.”

Arsenal have remained out of the Champions League since then and links with Barcelona continue to linger.

Bellerin went on: “It’s nice to know of the interest of a club like Barcelona, the club I grew up at from a young age. At the moment I don’t know anything, I’m an Arsenal player and we’ll see what happens.

“It’s not something you think about when you leave, because you never know how things are going to go. I had the luck to bet on Arsenal, it’s gone well for me, and now to receive this kind of news about Barcelona is something that makes me happy, but it doesn’t just depend on me.”
