Marina Granovskaia has decided Chelsea’s next two deals after triggering Thiago Silva option

Thiago Silva looks set to extend his Chelsea stay by another 12 months.

The Brazilian has impressed since joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, becoming a key figure in the Blues’ back-line, first under Frank Lampard and after being reunited with Thomas Tuchel.

Silva’s experience and leadership has put Chelsea on the brink of sealing a top-four spot in the Premier League and has played a key role in the team reaching both the FA Cup and Champions League finals.

But at the age of 36, coupled with the club’s contract policy for players over the age of 30, a contract renewal has not always been straightforward.

Whilst the Blues have always had the option to extend the Brazilian’s deal by another year, talk of signing a new centre-back in the summer transfer window meant Silva’s future has been uncertain.

However, the defender’s wife, Isabele da Silva, revealed her desire to remain in the capital.

During an Instagram Q and A, Isabele da Silva was asked: ‘Will Thiago stay at Chelsea next season?’

In reply, she said: “To depend on us…yes yes yes!!!!”

And it would appear that Isabele has got her wish as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Thiago Silva’s contract-extension clause will be triggered in the coming weeks.

In addition, that is not the only decision Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has made.

As the tweet above states, contract negotiations with midfield pair N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are set to commence in the coming months, but the club isn’t in any rush to open talks.

The Frenchman, who has looked back to his best in recent weeks, last signed a contract extension in November 2018 and that deal runs out in the summer of 2023.

That is also when the five-year deal Jorginho signed upon signing from Napoli in the summer of 2018 also expires.

Both players have been key to the Blues’ strong second half of the season and news that they are in line for contract extensions should please Tuchel.
