Spurs apologise over Super League plans

Tottenham have issued a statement apologising to supporters over their plans to compete in the Super League.

Spurs, along with the other five Premier League clubs, quickly withdrew from the controversial ‘breakaway’ league plans and have now addressed their fans to explain their actions.

“We have seen football fans around the world come together to show their strength of feeling regarding the future of the game we all feel so passionately about, with strong views expressed on the proposed establishment of a new European Super League (ESL),” read a statement.

“It’s important to underline that we entered the ESL with the expectation that the format, rules and structures would evolve through dialogue with key parties, namely the Premier League, FA, UEFA, FIFA and, crucially, fans. It should never have been conveyed with certainty when it was in fact a framework agreement for consultation going forward.

“We should have challenged and reconsidered the annual access system. We wholeheartedly regret that we involved the Club and that the legal process itself meant we were unable to consult our fans early on – we apologise unreservedly.”

Mourinho opens up on pressure moments in football

Jose Mourinho has opened up on how he copes with the pressure moments in football, following his sacking from Tottenham last month.

Mourinho, who will take over at AS Roma next season, has pinpointed “preparation” as the key to deal with football’s most intense games.

“It comes down to preparation. It’s important to always be prepared for all eventualities, because, in this way, you can adapt to pressure moments by relying on your preparation and your repetition,” the former Spurs boss said.

“For me, every game has a pressure because they all mean different things. There is pressure with a derby, a semi-final to make the final, a final to win the trophy, and three points to progress up the table and not lose your position.

“The best way to keep the pressure away is to prepare with consistency, and also in normal conditions so the players don’t feel anything different.”

Pochettino ‘unconvinced’ over Aurier amid transfer rumours

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is ‘unconvinced’ by the idea of bringing Serge Aurier to Paris Saint-Germain, according to French journalist Romain Molina.

Aurier was signed by Pochettino in 2017 but the right-back’s future at Spurs remains in doubt.

It looked as if the Ivory Coast defender would leave north London last summer, with a move to AC Milan reportedly falling through.

Molina is claiming that Pochettino has doubts over Aurier, with the full-back not even his first-choice when at Spurs, as Kieran Trippier was often preferred.
