Norwich City midfielder Alex Tettey has stated that he does not know how Oliver Skipp “plays with the maturity and quality he does” at the age of 20.

Tipped as a future Tottenham captain by Jose Mourinho last July, the England U21 international departed north London in August to link up with the Canaries on a season-long loan deal.

Starting in 44 of Norwich’s 46 league games during a stunning year in the Championship where he helped Daniel Farke’s side return to the top flight at the first time of asking, the midfielder was cruelly denied the chance to play in all of their league fixtures due to a foot injury sustained in their penultimate match of the season.

Going from strength to strength during his time in Norfolk, Skipp looks set to challenge for a regular first-team place at Tottenham upon his return to the club this summer.

Unfortunately missing out on the Championship Team of the Season and coming third in Norwich’s Player of the Year award, Canaries midfielder Tettey has hailed the youngster for his impact at the club this season and has stated that he has an incredibly bright future ahead of him.

“There’s one mark he gets from me and that’s A+++,” Tettey told Eastern Daily Press. “There’s not much to say, I don’t know how you can be 20 and play with the maturity and quality that he does.

“In any team, you need a guy like that. He’s the modern type player that you need. He is an incredible young footballer with a bright future ahead of him. He is a nice guy as well.

“What I like about him is he is not that loud, he smiles a lot but when he plays his football, he’s there.”

While Norwich will no doubt make their move to re-sign Skipp on loan next campaign as they bid to keep their place in the top flight, Tottenham’s incoming boss will likely have other ideas and keep him as part of his plans.

If indeed there is no spot for him just yet in the Spurs side, Tettey knows there is only one place for him.

“Every Norwich fan would say that they hope that Tottenham don’t play him so he can come back!” joked the midfielder.

“When you are that age, you consistently play football. Tottenham need to find out whether they want to give him that. If not, then we know and he knows there is only one place for him. He should just come here.

“There is no pressure. The manager loves him. He knows the group, he’s been here and done well. It makes sense for him to come back.

“Everyone wants him to come back. Fingers crossed.”
