Brendan Rodgers confirms Leicester City injury boost ahead of meeting Chelsea in FA Cup final

Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Jonny Evans will be passed fit for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea after the veteran centre back returned to training this morning.

Leicester, who also face Chelsea in the Premier League next week as both clubs attempt to seal Champions League qualification, are in their first major final for half a century and Rodgers has no fresh injury concerns.

Evans missed Tuesday evening’s win away to Manchester United because of a lingering heel issue.

“We’ll give it another day but he’s progressed well,” Rodgers said. “He was otuside today and looked very good. We will make a final decision tomorrow but we’re hopeful.

“Jonny I know is a warrior so any way he can play, even if not 100%, he’ll be out there but I have to balance that out with it being a huge game, a physical game. If that’s hindered any way it may make it difficult for him but we’ll see how it goes.

“If he’s not available he’d be a big loss for us. If he’s fit enough to play it’s a huge boost for us.”

Asked to put a percentage on Evans being in the starting XI, Rodgers added: “I’m sorry I’m not a mind reader but you’ll see if he’s available at the weekend.

Cengiz Under also missed the 2-1 win at Old Trafford because of a minor hip injury but Rodgers expects the Turkish winger, on loan from Roma, to be in the squad too.

“We have to respect he’s on loan but he trained this morning and will be available,” he added. “Everyone else came through the last game really well. Everyone is fit and available at the moment apart from the other [long-term] guys.”
