Jorginho poor in Blues defeat

Jorginho scored just a 5/10 in ‘s player ratings after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian midfielder’s backpass was saved off the line by Kepa Arrizabalaga, and then the ball fell to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who then found Emile Smith Rowe – who tapped the ball in for the only goal of the game.

He improved marginally in the second-half, but the 29-year-old will need to step up and be far sharper in possession if he is to feature against Leicester City in the weekend’s FA Cup final.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former England left-back said: “I had the pleasure to have a meeting with him last week, with a few of the academy staff, and just to get an insight of how he works on a daily basis.

“It was great to see he’s got that happy environment, I think he’s got all players on side, they’ve got that work ethic and willingness to want to improve and to get better, so I can kind of see the way he works and understand now when I watch Chelsea about the type of passing patterns and the way he sees football.

“It was brilliant for me as a young coach. The unforced errors I think have gone, there were a few in the West Brom game but there was a red card, a few positional issues.

“But so far, he has done a great job here and I hope following on from this season, that next season will be even better.”

Chelsea take on the recently-crowned Premier League champions in the final on May 29 and the referee has now been confirmed.

Mateu Lahoz has not been afraid to show his yellow card this season – handing out a total of 134 in 29 matches.

He took charge of City’s Champions League quarter-final second-leg defeat to Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in 2018 and Guardiola was not impressed with what he saw from the official.

The City boss said: “I said it [Sane’s effort] was a goal. I didn’t insult him, I was polite, I was correct. But Mateu Lahoz is a special guy, he likes to be different, he likes to be special.

“I know what happened in Monaco last season, at 1-1, with an incredible penalty from Sergio Aguero. He’s special. When everybody sees things, he likes to decide the opposite. I didn’t say any wrong word.”
