Arsenal ended a ten-year wait for a victory at Stamford Bridge by running out 1-0 winners over Chelsea following Emile Smith Rowe’s second goal in as many games.

The England under-21 international scuffed finish was the difference between the two following a catastrophic back pass from Jorginho.

The Italian blindly played the ball back to Kepa Arrizabalaga only to look up and see his pass heading for the back of the net rather than to his goalkeeper.

Kepa did well to recover and deny an own goal only for his save to fall at the feet of Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 31-year-old laid the ball back to Smith Rowe whose left-footed effort found the corner of the net and gave the Gunners the lead.

Chelsea attempted to get back into the game and came closest through Olivier Giroud’s volley that cannoned back off the crossbar.

In the end, the Arsenal rearguard held strong and the Gunners completed a league double over Chelsea and extended their unbeaten run against their London rivals to four matches with their last defeat against the Blues back in December 2019.

Prior to the match, Aubameyang had shared a moment with his former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and he did something similar with his ex-Dortmund teammate Christian Pulisic on the final whistle.

However, it was not Pulisic that the Arsenal captain waited to swap shirts with. Aubameyang stood on the outside of a group of Chelsea players who were catching up with their former Chelsea teammate Willian before handing over his shirt to one of the men talking.

Thiago Silva grasped hands with the striker and the two traded shirts before heading their separate ways off the field.

The win saw Arsenal move into eighth spot and gives them an outside hope of European football next season, but the Gunners will be relying on the results of others and winning their two remaining games if they want to be involved in continental competitions next season.

If Arsenal can push into seventh place then a spot in the new UEFA Europa Conference League tournament could be their prize.
