Alan Shearer has submitted his prediction for the top four race.
The race to qualify for next season’s Champions League is a close one, with Chelsea, Leicester City and Liverpool battling it out heading towards the final weekend.
Chelsea defeated Leicester to move above them on Tuesday night, and Liverpool can also leapforg the Foxes ahead of the final round of fixtures should they beat Burnley this evening, albeit only on goal difference.
Leicester could retake the lead, even if Liverpool do win their final two games, by outscoring the Reds by a certain number of goals, but they do play Tottenham in their final game, while Jurgen Klopp’s men face Crystal Palace.
Though, even with Chelsea and Liverpool appearing to have the upper hand, Match of the Day pundit Shearer believes it will be the Blues and the Foxes who make the cut.
As reported by HITC, Shearer said of the top four battle: “I think it might stay as it is.
“I think Liverpool will miss out, just. I know Burnley have looked like they have chucked the towel in already.
“But then Palace, with Roy’s last game and I know he has announced it [yesterday] – I think they will miss out and I don’t think they will win their last two games.”
Chelsea now find themselves in a commanding position having beaten Leicester 2-1, a point clear of the East Midlands side and four ahead of Liverpool, though that could be one point by this evening.
Thomas Tuchel’s men face Aston Villa away from home in their last game of the season, which is no gimme, but given Villa are not able to finish any higher than their current position of 11th, the Blues will fancy themselves to finish the job.
