Eberechi Eze is out of the Crystal Palace line up after picking up a potentially serious Achilles injury, with Cheikhou Kouyate coming into the midfield and James Tomkins starting at centre-back.

Vicente Guaita is back in goal in front of 6,500 Palace fans at Selhurst Park with a back four of Joel Ward, Gary Cahill, Tomkins and Tyrick Mitchell.

In midfield, Kouyate joins Jeff Schlupp and James McCarthy in what could be the Irish midfielder’s last home performance for the club.

And the attack is the same one that performed so well against Aston Villa at the weekend, with Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha providing the width and Christian Benteke starting at centre-forward.

Hodgson had stated ahead of the game that Eze, along with Scott Dann, would require a fitness assessment before becoming available for the match.

“We’ve got some team news, I suppose,” Hodgson told reporters. “We’ve got a couple of players that we need to assess for the game tomorrow.

“That’s going to be Scott Dann and Eberechi Eze. We’re going to have to assess them before the game. I’m hopeful that they’ll make it but we’ll have to wait and see.”

However, the injury to the 22-year-old is clearly worse than first thought, with the Athletic stating that Eze has suffered a ruptured Achilles and could be out for up to eight months – a serious blow to Palace ahead of what will be a significant summer for the club.
