What happened between John Terry and Tottenham fans ahead of Chelsea reunion

John Terry is Chelsea through and through.

Despite leaving at the end of the 2016/17 season, the former Blues captain still takes games against the London clubs very seriously, even as being part of the Aston Villa coaching staff.

The latest example of this came on Wednesday evening as Villa dented Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of playing Europa League football next season.

A bizarre own-goal from Sergio Reguilon and an Ollie Watkins strike helped Dean Smith’s side come from behind in north London to seal a 2-1 win and leave Spurs needing a win on the final day of the season against Leicester City to be in Europe next term.

Whilst Villa’s win could be viewed as a warning for Chelsea ahead of their final day meeting, there was a moment that would have made Blues fans chuckle.

As reported by the Mirror, Tottenham fans attempted to wind Terry up by singing about Ledley King being a better central defender than him during their playing days.

However, the Villa assistant boss had the perfect response.

It has been revealed that Terry couldn’t resist turning around and holding up an imaginary trophy to the Spurs fans – reminding them it has been another trophyless season in N17.

Terry might not be as animated on the touchline when he is reunited with Chelsea at Villa Park on Sunday as a victory for his side could deny the Blues a place in the top four.

And Thomas Tuchel is ready to finish the job following Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Leicester City.

“It felt like a huge effort and a top performance,” Tuchel told reporters. “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a big step but it’s only a step, it’s not done yet.

“We have to get over the line on Sunday. It was a team effort full of intensity, full of hunger and ambition. We played many, many minutes with a lot of quality.

“It was in my opinion a well-deserved win but it’s not the time for praise and celebration. It’s not the time about philosophy and whether this is more than three points.

“There’s another game to catch on Sunday we’ll be prepared and aware to finish the job.”
