Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Mauricio Pochettino over a return to the club, football.london understands.

The current Paris Saint-Germain manager only departed the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 18 months ago but a sensational return to Spurs could be on the cards this summer.

Pochettino has won two domestic trophies with PSG but failed to deliver the Ligue 1 title after taking over from the now-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel in January of this year.

This failure to win the championship has given former Tottenham and England manager Glenn Hoddle cause for concern when it comes to re-appointing the Argentine.

“My concern would be that he hasn’t won Ligue 1 with PSG. Roberto Martinez is another candidate but he will be concentrating on the Euros with Belgium. Daniel has a tough job to find the right manager for Spurs but he’s give himself that job,” Hoddle told Betfair.

football.london understands that not only have Spurs spoken to Pochettino about a return to the club but the Argentinian would be interested in coming back to the club.

Pochettino has in the past made no secret of his desire to return to Spurs to fulfil ‘unfinished business’ at the club but few expected his return to potentially be this soon.

The 49-year-old had a transformative effect on Spurs during his tenure, leading Spurs to three consecutive top-three finishes, four Champions League qualifications and began Spurs’ now five-year run of finishing above Arsenal in the Premier League.

As well as Pocettino’s failure in the French title race, Hoddle has pinpointed another potential barrier to the Argentine’s return, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s ego.

“There are lots of people being linked to Spurs. It hasn’t gone very well for Mauricio Pochettino at PSG but Daniel would need to be a big man to go to Pochettino and say: “I shouldn’t have sacked you.” That’s the key to it, whether Daniel can do that,” he said.

A deal for Pochettino to return to the club is a long way off yet and as Hoddle suggests there are a number of stumbling blocks to get over before the fan favourite can return.

However, that has not stopped the fans excitement building with reappointing fan favourite Pochettino a sure-fire way to get the Spurs faithful back onside.
