Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Mauricio Pochettino about a return to Spurs and the former manager is open to the prospect of moving back to London.
football.london understands that talks between the two sides have been held and there is interest from both parties about the move.
Any deal for the Argentine to return is far from simple with Paris Saint-Germain intent on keeping their man and Real Madrid also sniffing around the 49-year-old following the departure of Zinedine Zidane from the Bernabeu.
The interest from Real Madrid is something Spanish football journalist and Pochettino’s co-author of ‘Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs’ Guillem Balague has highlighted as a potential stumbling block.
However, Balague did note that Pochettino sees London as home and returning to life in England is a goal of the manager.
“On Pochettino. PSG have got no intention to let him go and are surprised by the amount of coverage about something they are not contemplating.,” Balague wrote.
“His relationship with Levy has improved and, as they are looking for a profile like him, why not consider him? So they asked.
“The pandemic has made life outside football harder than usual and half of his family remain in his place in London, a property seen as permanent as the Barcelona one. Returning to England is certainly a goal and generally football puts the timing but…
“..he has started planning next season with PSG decision makers. At PSG -where they don’t blame him for not winning the league and have see big improvements in the squad- they do not expect anything but him starting next season on their bench
“Real Madrid also looking for a manager and he will surely get a call from them again.”
With PSG intent on keeping their manager and interest from Real Madrid Spurs face a huge battle to bring in the man they want to lead them back to the Champions League, but with Pochettino’s love of London the Tottenham supporters will cling onto the hope the fan favourite will return.
However, according to reports in the French publication L’Equipe Pochettino and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy have not been in personal contact.
RMC Sport are reporting a similar story to L’Equipe with the French website claiming “there is nothing” in the rumours of a return to London, adding “there is nothing at all.”
