PSG to block Neymar, Mbappe from Olympic Games

Paris Saint-Germain will not permit Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Marquinhos or any of their players to feature in the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, ESPN reports.

Mbappe, Neymar and Marquinhos have all expressed a desire to play in the competition, but the Ligue 1 side will not agree to their request.

PSG feel the trio would need rest before a short preseason, following their involvement at Euro 2020 and the Copa America in Brazil.

Playing at the Olympics (which Neymar and Marquinhos did in 2016), would mean no holidays or preseason.

The Olympic tournament will be held between July 21 and August 7.

It is not an official FIFA competition, which means clubs are not obliged to let their players go

The new Ligue 1 season starts on August 6, with the Trophee des Champions between PSG and Lille to be played on August 1.
