Sheffield United boss Slaviska Jokanovic has admitted Sander Berge could leave the club before the summer transfer window slams shut.
football.london understands that the Norway midfielder is of interest to Mikel Arteta and the Gunners could make a move for him in the coming weeks.
However, a few weeks ago, Yorkshire Live reported that the Blades were holding firm over Berge and were unwilling to let the 23-year-old leave Bramall Lane unless his £35million release clause was triggered.
Now, though, new Sheffield United manager Jokanovic has admitted that his prized asset could be sold this summer following the Yorkshire club’s relegation to the Championship.
“I know the situation with Sander,” Jokanovic said, via The Star. “There is a possibility that he will be one guy who leaves, but I hope this doesn’t happen.
“But the club informed me about this for a reason, so that we can be ready if that does happen. If it doesn’t, then of course that will be good for us too.”
The Blades boss added: “Sander has a minor (injury) problem.
“I stress, a minor one. That is why he wasn’t with us. He is with the medical people but it is nothing serious. That is what he is working on at the moment and he will be okay soon.”
football.london understands that Arsenal are preparing for a huge squad overhaul this summer, with one signing already completed.
Nuno Tavares was confirmed as a Gunner last week as he arrived for around £6.8million from Benfica and two others are expected to follow very soon.
Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga are set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium this summer as Arteta continues to bolster his options ahead of the 2021/22 season.
With Granit Xhaka expected to leave and join Roma, someone like Berge, or Ruben Neves – who has also been linked with a move to north London – could come through the door.
Xhaka has already agreed personal terms with the Rome-based outfit, but the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement for the Switzerland international.
Yves Bissouma is another man involved in plenty of Arsenal transfer rumours, but Berge is likely to be a cheaper option than the Brighton central midfielder.
Bissouma is reportedly valued at £40million, which is around £5million more than Berge’s apparent release clause in his contract in Yorkshire.
