Former Arsenal target and now Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has dropped a big hint on where his next move could be after France.

Guimaraes featured in a total of 37 games for Lyon in a rather disrupted season for all clubs around the world due to Covid-19 last term.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with the Gunners two seasons ago, when he was at Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense. The midfielder also was tentatively linked to London rivals Chelsea, but Guimaraes eventually ended up at Lyon where he has had two important seasons when it comes to his development as a young, up and coming star.

Instead, both London clubs ended up signing different midfielders later on in different transfer windows with Arsenal acquiring Thomas Partey, and Chelsea signing Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal after his initial loan spell.

Guimaraes went on to play a big part in the French side’s run to the 2019/20 Champions League semi-finals, where they lost to the eventual winners Bayern Munich.

Speaking about adjusting to life in France during the pandemic, the midfielder dropped a big hint on where his next destination will be.

The 23-year-old told “In the beginning it was hard to stay positive, every time I turned on the television the news was worse than the day before. It was strange to be unable to help when everything was so bad.

“The only thing I could do to help was to stay at home. I only went out to get my groceries or to the pharmacy.

“During the second wave, I looked at how I could help my compatriots back in Brazil by getting them the essentials. I was worried about my family and my girlfriend back in Brazil.”

Guimaraes went on to add: “The only upside for me was that I had plenty of time to learn French.

“I did online courses, I watched a lot of local TV, Netflix series like Lupin, films in French, and all that paid off. I can now speak the language after 18 months. My next goal is to learn English.”

Learning English for a potential transfer away from Lyon perhaps? Knowing that many Premier League clubs hold a long-term interest in such a promising player could suggest that a move to England is on the cards for the Brazilian-born player.

Obviously there is no time frame on when he could leave for England, with this summer potentially coming too soon considering Guimaraes is starting to settle well into Lyon and French life.
