Arsenal have been shown how to stop Chelsea from completing £150m Erling Haaland transfer

Arsenal are not in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer.

But they could – despite it being very unlikely – have a say as to where the Norway international ends up once the current transfer window slams shut at the end of next month.

Haaland, who last month was handed a brilliant incentive to join Arsenal by outspoken Gunners fan and television personality Piers Morgan, has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.

But Dortmund are under no pressure to sell their star striker this summer after agreeing a £73m deal with Manchester United for the sale of Jadon Sancho.

With that said, recent reports claim that bid of at least £150m would tempt Dortmund into softening their stance.

However, a 12-month wait for a transfer could actually end up being financially beneficial for the Blues as Haaland’s release clause will be set at £68m next summer.

Interestingly, it would appear that the Bundesliga outfit are preparing for life without Haaland, whether it be for the upcoming season or the 2022/23 campaign.

Donyell Malen is a name familiar to some Arsenal fans and he featured at this summer’s European Championships for the Netherlands.

The striker joined the Gunners from Ajax in 2015, playing for two years in the youth teams and impressing with a fine goalscoring record, but he never earned a first-team promotion under then manager Arsene Wenger and was sold in 2017 to PSV Eindhoven.

And after rising to prominence during his time at PSV, Malen could be on the move again as according to Sport Bild, he has agreed personal terms with Dortmund.

Capable of playing out wide as well as through the middle, the 22-year-old could be a direct replacement for Sancho or the long-term successor for Haaland at the Signal Iduna Park.

The latter would certainly alert Chelsea, but Arsenal could stop their London rivals from completing a stunning £150m transfer this summer by resigning their former player.

Before the 2020 January transfer window opened, the Gunners were said to be plotting a move for Malen and it’s being reported that PSV are now demanding €30m (£25m) for the forward.

Depending on what happens with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah – both are out of contract at the end of next season – a new striker might also be a priority for Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu this summer.

Perhaps hijacking Dortmund’s move for Malen would not only strengthen their own squad, but also come with the added bonus of scuppering the transfer business of one of their fiercest rivals.
