Chelsea will head off to Dublin next Tuesday for a week-long training camp and understands the club are set to face Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly on their return to England.

The Blues began their preparations for the new campaign in earnest this week, with 28 senior players returning to Cobham on Monday.

That group is made up of first-team stars – including Edouard Mendy, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham – returning loanees, and a few players from the development squad, namely Charly Musonda, Dujon Sterling and Lucas Bergstrom.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is overseeing the makeshift squad and understands the club will wait for him to assess several players before decisions are made over their long-term futures.

Match action will help the German in his decision-making and the Blues will play their first game of pre-season this Saturday in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Championship side Peterborough United. The match isn’t set to be broadcast, nor are highlights anticipated to be made available.

Chelsea will then head off to Ireland next Tuesday and are hopeful of playing at least one match, potentially against a local side, during their time away from Cobham.

Tuchel and his squad, which will be boosted by the return of several players who were in action at Euro 2020 across the month, are then expected to face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday, July 27.

Chelsea’s preparations for the 2021/22 campaign will then step up with the Blues set to compete in the Mind Series against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

A week later the Blues will make the short journey to Northern Ireland to take on Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup in Belfast. That game will be played at Windsor Park and will kick-off at 8pm UK time.
