What Ruben Neves’ agent is doing to push through £35m Arsenal transfer from Wolves

Arsenal are set for a huge summer in terms of transfer business with Mikel Arteta and Edu looking to bolster the club’s options over the coming weeks.

Granit Xhaka is set to leave the Gunners very soon, with personal terms agreed over a switch to AS Roma to team up with Jose Mourinho. However, the two clubs are yet to agree on a fee for the Switzerland midfielder.

If Xhaka does complete a move to the Italian capital, as expected, then Arteta will be on the lookout to bring a new midfield partner for Thomas Partey to the Emirates Stadium.

One man that has been heavily linked with Arsenal is Ruben Neves of Wolves, with the Midlands club reportedly open to selling him for £35million.

Now, according to The Sun, Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes is in ‘constant communication’ with Arsenal director Edu over a summer move to the Emirates.

But the aforementioned £35m price tag is proving to be a ‘stumbling block’ in negotiations between the two parties.

Some positive news for Arsenal supporters, though, is that it is claimed that despite Nuno Espirito Santo – another one of Mendes’ clients – being keen on the Portugal midfielder, he is unlikely to join Tottenham.

Wolves’ general manager of football operations, Matt Wild, spoke about Neves ‘ future at Molineux in May and cleared up some confusion over his contract at the club.

Some fans thought the Portugal midfielder had just two years remaining on his deal, but Wild insisted he is contracted with the club until 2024.

He said: “I think in the press or our fans are thinking he’s only signed up to 2023, but in fact he is on contract until 2024.

“He’s still got another three years, so fans don’t need to worry that he’s going to be going anywhere, or he’s going to be out of contract any time soon. So, yes, he’s still got another three years on his contract.”
