Arsenal fans have demanded that Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma joins compatriot Ben White in moving to the Emirates Stadium this summer after the club’s latest pre-season showing.
Bissouma, 24, has less than two years left on his current deal with Graham Potter’s side, and the Mali international has been a player heavily linked to replace the outgoing Granit Xhaka this summer.
The Gunners drew 2-2 today against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in their second pre-season contest up in Scotland, as new signing Nuno Tavares opened up his account for the club.
That’s now two games without a victory in pre-season for Arsenal.
One noticeable factor from the fans’ perspective was just how the midfield two in the first half – of Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey – didn’t really compliment each other.
As a result, many supporters on social media reminded the club that their business with Brighton shouldn’t be done yet, after it was announced that Edu has agreed a deal to bring English defender White to the club this summer, in a deal worth around £50million.
While that was a transfer that got Arsenal fans excited, attentions swiftly turned to the next additions after the clash at Ibrox. Here’s how a select number of fans reacted on social media to the Bissouma demand.
@ClockEndJim: “We need a midfielder to replace Xhaka and for me, Bissouma is the best fit to play in a pivot with Partey.
“A no.10 should be brought in too but we definitely need both. If we have limited funds then we shouldn’t be spending 50m on White.
“That’s just my opinion though.”
@taseclemence: “We don’t need Locatelli, it’s better sign Bissouma and Camavinga for this midfield.”
@AfcNas: “Yves Bissouma next please. Whilst we’re at Brighton, we may as well agree a deal for him too. Not that expensive at all and a very good replacement for Xhaka.
“We badly need him after seeing Partey and Elneny perform badly today.”
@KarelPeters5: “We need Bissouma in that midfield badly.”
@Afc_Eman is on the other side of the debate when it comes to whether the 24-year-old is needed.
He said: “Bissouma and Partey in a midfield don’t work I don’t think u guys realise.”
Brighton’s midfield rock featured in a total of 39 games in all competitions last season for the Seagulls, and has a current market value of around £22.5m according to Transfermarkt.
Stats such as the Mali midfielder crunching into a total of 425 tackles during his stay in the Premier League demonstrate the bite and tenacity he could potentially offer to Arteta’s midfield two for next season. Perhaps traits not prevalent today in the draw with the side from Glasgow.
