Chelsea appear to have suffered a blow in their striker pursuit this summer, with the latest developments on both Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku not making good reading for Blues fans.

Two different updates may force Roman Abramovich and co. to rethink their strategy when it comes to signing a new number nine this summer.

Both strikers are two out of three ‘world class’ options that the west Londoners are said to be actively pursuing in the forward area this summer.

Haaland is viewed as number one option, with ex-Chelsea striker Lukaku an alternative alongside Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

More recent developments have happened with the Belgium international in regards to his future with Inter.

CEO of Inter, Giuseppe Marotta, has now poured cold water on the possibility of seeing two star players leaving the club in one transfer window, after seeing wing-back and Chelsea target Achraf Hakimi leave for Paris Saint-Germain already.

His latest quotes, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, appear to have ruled out any sale of the 28-year-old striker in the current window.

When addressing the summer transfer business, Marotta told Sky Sport: “Hector Bellerin is a player we’re following… but I can’t say more.

“Alex Telles? I can’t exclude this possibility but we’re making our plans and we’ll see. We’re now planning to keep our best players after selling Hakimi.”

One blow for the west Londoners could be palatable for fans, but two in the same day has really put doubt in supporters’ minds that one of these world-class options could be signed this summer.

This is because primary target Haaland has insisted that he is looking forward to working under new Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose for the upcoming season.

In an interview with Stadium Astro, the 20-year-old said: “I know him from before because I had six months with him in Salzburg. He’s a nice guy and I look forward to working with him.

“The training is so hard here, so it’s exactly the same as it was in Salzburg, a lot of hard training and there is going to be a lot of running.

“That’s what I expect the tactic to be to press a lot, run a lot and attack a lot.

“Now we have to have a good pre-season and have to get to know each other and we will see.

“We won the DFB Pokal last season which was very important for us as a club and the fans. That was important and we have to see.”

From that deal’s point of view, not much appears to have changed since Sky Sports’ update a few days ago. This is despite owner Abramovich reportedly taking out £150million to help fund the potential signing of the Norwegian star.

Seemingly, the German club are sticking to their word that the striker is simply not for sale this summer.

“It’s going to be very difficult,” Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sports News. “It’s no secret that Chelsea want to sign a number nine this summer. And Erling Haaland is their number one target.”

He went on to add: “As far as Haaland is concerned, Borussia Dortmund are saying he is not for sale, even though he has this release clause in his contract which means he could leave next summer for about £75m.”

Both strikers, who have a combined transfer value of around £250m, hit 85 goals between them in all club competitions las season, which would be just the firepower Tuchel is looking for to make his Chelsea side Premier League challengers.
