It’s just a matter of time before Arsenal announce their second signing of the summer transfer window.
Nuno Tavares has already sealed his £6.8million move from Benfica and enjoyed a goalscoring debut in the 2-2 pre-season draw with Rangers at the weekend.
Speaking to reporters after the game at Ibrox, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the left-back’s performance and also hinted that new faces were imminent.
“We trained really hard, played two games, and now we’re going to be travelling to America in the next week,” said Arteta. “We didn’t have any injuries which is really positive in the first week.
“We’re going to have some new faces arriving probably, so very positive.
“A great debut with his right foot as well! He’s only been with us a few days but you can already see his qualities, his physicality and then the quality on the ball that he has. He’s integrating with the lads really well, so it’s a good start.”
One of the new faces is expected to be young midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.
As reported by football.london, the move – worth an initial £15m fee – is all but confirmed although the final announcement has been held up following the temporary closure of the club’s London Colney training ground.
The training ground is being deep cleaned after members of the Under-18s and Under-23s were forced to isolate due to positive COVID-19 tests at London Colney.
And as seen in the image above that has been uploaded to Twitter by @Afcsammmm, an announcement could be imminent as Lokonga appears to have been ‘spotted’ in London over the weekend.
As well as Lokonga, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Ben White.
football.london understands a £50m fee has been agreed with Brighton and Hove Albion and that personal terms with the England international have already been sorted.
White will undergo a medical when he returns from his holiday later this week as the Gunners’ summer squad overhaul begins to take shape.
