Henry Lawrence has completed a loan move from Chelsea to AFC Wimbledon, football.london understands.
The 19-year-old has attracted plenty of interest over the summer with clubs in the Championship and League One all attempting to borrow the versatile midfielder from the Blues.
Wigan Athletic felt they were leading the race to sign Lawrence but early last week talks with Wimbledon accelerated and the youngster has agreed to move to Plough Lane on a six-month loan deal.
Lawrence will join Chelsea Under-18s assistant coach James Simmonds at the Dons. The 33-year-old is also spending the campaign on loan at the League One club as part of Mark Robinson’s coaching team.
Lawrence joined Chelsea at eight years old and has played in almost every outfield position during his time in the club’s academy.
He was named Chelsea’s Scholar of the Year in 2019 and was a key player for the unbeaten Development Squad in 2019/20.
Lawrence signed a new three-year contract with the Blues last year and made 19 appearances for the development squad during the 2020/21 campaign, one slightly impacted by injury.
