Ben White is expected to become an Arsenal player in the next few days with a medical in north London penned in.

The 23-year-old central defender is set to join the Gunners after they agreed a £50million deal with Brighton to take the England international.

White enjoyed a fine 2020/21 season down on the south coast which deservedly earned him plenty of plaudits and a place in his country’s 26-man squad for the recent Euro 2020 campaign.

Mikel Arteta is determined to improve his defensive options, especially given David Luiz’s departure at the end of last season, and White has been identified as the man for the long-term at the Emirates Stadium.

Someone who knows a thing or two about becoming a great defender at Arsenal is Sol Campbell, who had two spells with the club.

The former England centre-back has now told the soon-to-be Gunners defender exactly what he needs to do to becoming a top player at the Emirates.

Campbell told talkSPORT, via The Boot Room : “He is one for the future, 23-years-old. Definitely one for the future.

“I do not think you can know too much about someone at that age. It needs to work out, Arsenal are not in a position to shift out £50million for a player.

“He has to start, it it gets going, then all good. It is a difficult one. It’s a lot of money but they’re looking at the years ahead.

“They see a future. At £50million, you’ve got to be in a position to be a master of your position.”

White spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Leeds United in the Championship, helping the Yorkshire club secure promotion to the Premier League, in a campaign that helped the defender grow leaps and bounds as an all-round player.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, speaking in January this year, was full of praise for White and what he achieved during his time at Elland Road.

“All of us here admire him as a player,” Bielsa said earlier this year. “We respect him and love him as a human being.

“He was an excellent professional as well as a team-mate. I hope his career allows him to grow because he deserves it.”
