Vladimir Coufal is reported to have felt ‘let down’ by West Ham after receiving a contract offer he believes is unacceptable.
The Czech Republic international only signed for the Hammers in October but such has been his impact at the London Stadium negotiations on a new deal have begun.
However, according to Sky Sports, Coufal is beginning to feel frustrated with the club’s failure to meet his expectations.
football.london understands that whilst Coufal is disappointed with the deal on offer he is keen to remain with the Hammers for the long term.
Coufal’s current contract runs until 2023 with an option to extend for a further two years, but after an impressive 2020/21 campaign, West Ham are keen to tie the right-back down ahead of the new season.
The 28-year-old was signed for just £5million from Slavia Prague and went on to appear in all but one league match since his signing was confirmed in October.
Coufal took his fine Hammers form into Euro 2020 where he continued to excel, helping to take his country to the quarter-final stages, while providing two assists in his five appearances at the tournament.
According to Sky Sports, the new deal offered to Coufal is heavily weighted towards appearances and performance rather than a major increase in his basic salary, and this is believed to be the sticking point between the two parties.
Coufal is yet to return to West Ham following his Euro 2020 exploits but is expected to be fit and ready to go for the season opener on August 15 against Newcastle.
Right-back is one of the few positions that the Hammers are well stocked in with both Ryan Fredericks and Ben Johnson excelling during pre-season.
However, despite fine performances from the English defenders, Coufal is undoubtedly the Hammers’ first-choice right-back and a player David Moyes wants to see tied down to the club for the long term.
