Thomas Tuchel has been on the lookout for additions to his Chelsea frontline throughout the summer.
Timo Werner failed to really convince during his debut campaign as a Chelsea player, whilst Tammy Abraham fell down the pecking order following the arrival of the German at Stamford Bridge. Olivier Giroud has also departed west London having joined Italian giants AC Milan despite having penned a new deal.
As a result, Erling Haaland has emerged as the priority for the reigning European champions but as it stands, a deal has proven troublesome.
That has seen Chelsea scout out a few alternative options heading into the summer window which includes Inter Milan pair Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
Another name that has been linked with the Blues is that of Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann.
The clock continues to tick down on Chelsea’s search for a striker with the 2021/22 season so football.london takes a look at the latest news surrounding the French forward.
Barca looking to sell
Barcelona’s financial woes have been well broadcast this summer, with the Catalan giants aiming to reduce their wage bill.
One of those who could be moved on is Griezmann, according to Sport.
As per the reports, Barcelona are open to moving him on in order to cut their current lofty expenditure.
Chelsea offered Griezmann
With Barcelona looking to sell, it is reported that Chelsea are one of among a handful of clubs to be offered the Frenchman.
As per the Daily Star, representatives of the 2018 World Cup winner are expected in London in effort to gauge interest from a number of Premier League clubs including the Blues.
Manchester City are also thought to be included on the list of potential buyers.
Atleti swap deal mooted
One potential avenue that may have presented itself is a swap deal between Atletico Madrid involving Griezmann and Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez.
According to Sky Sports, the two clubs are in talks over a deal that would see the Frenchman return to his former club after just two years away.
Intriguingly, Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Saul earlier this summer.
No offers received
Despite actively attempting to move Griezmann on, Barcelona’s task appears somewhat more difficult than first perceived.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, no offers have been received for the forward. President Joan Laporta has suggested however that there is interest.
He said: “He is a Barca player, he has a contract in force and unless there are different circumstances, we have him.
“There have been movements in the market but it is normal in the transfer market. We cannot deny that there has been interest in the player and that shows his quality. “
