Chelsea’s first signing of the summer transfer window is imminent.
So far, the main focus for the Blues has been on trimming the first-team squad with the likes of Marc Guehi, Fikayo Tomori, Victor Moses and Olivier Giroud all departing on permanent deals.
But the wait goes on for an incoming at Stamford Bridge and time is running out before the window closes on August 31.
With that said, Chelsea, to their credit, have been linked with a move for a new striker amid talk of signing one of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski or even bringing back Romelu Lukaku for a second spell in west London.
But whilst recruiting a forward is Tuchel’s top priority, he is also in the market for a new goalkeeper.
Following the departure of Willy Caballero at the end of his contract, the Blues are in need of sourcing a new third-choice shot-stopper to keep Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga on their toes.
And according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have found their man.
The report states that the Blues are set to complete the signing of former Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, who has agreed a two-year deal with the Champions League holders.
Furthermore, the 29-year-old is due to complete his medical and sign for the club in the next 48 hours, it is claimed.
Chelsea signing Bettinelli is beneficial for two precise reasons. One being that he is a free agent meaning the Blues are saving millions and he will also add to their homegrown contingent.
The ex-Fulham and Middlesbrough stopper will become Tuchel’s first signing as Chelsea head coach.
Appointed during the January transfer window, the German opted against bringing in any players and used the squad Frank Lampard left behind to win the Champions League.
