Chelsea legend John Terry has labelled Jack Grealish as one of the best players in the world following his move to Manchester City.
The England forward’s switch to the Etihad Stadium was confirmed on Thursday evening, with Pep Guardiola’s side spending £100m and breaking the British transfer record in the process to secure his signature from Aston Villa.
It is a move that sees Chelsea miss out on a former transfer target with the Blues having been rumoured to be considering a swoop last month.
Grealish’s arrival at City also sees the current Premier League champions strengthen their star-studded squad even more, with Guardiola also aiming to avenge last season’s Champions League final defeat to Chelsea.
Terry, who played with Grealish during a solitary season at Villa Park following his Chelsea exit before then working alongside him during his spell as assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa, is under no illusions about the winger’s immense ability.
He said via an Instagram post: “Good luck @jackgrealish.
“I know how tough this decision would have been for you mate. You gave @avfcofficial everything.
“It was a pleasure playing alongside you & watching you become one of the best players in the world.
“One of the hardest working players I have ever seen and a great man. @mancity what a player you have here. All the best.”
Despite Grealish and Terry sharing the dressing room in the second city, the pair could not help Villa to promotion from the Championship under Dean Smith.
The Villans were defeated in the play-off final by Fulham, but did manage to earn a place in the Premier League at the second attempt as they defeated Derby County, albeit Terry having already moved into a backroom role at Villa Park.
