Brendan Rodgers is once again batting away questions regarding the future of one of his first-team stars at Leicester City, with Arsenal continuing to be linked with James Maddison.

As first revealed by, the Gunners are keen admirers of the 24-year-old playmaker and see him as a viable candidate to claim the vacant creative midfielder role.

Arsenal have already lodged a bid for his services thought to be a cash-plus-player deal that allowed the Foxes to choose between Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson, whilst Eddie Nketiah has also been mentioned.

Despite the deal offered to Leicester, Foxes boss Rodgers made a statement over Maddison’s future, insisting he was happy in the East Midlands.

Asked if the midfielder saw his future with the club, he said: “I believe so, I haven’t been told anything to say that he wouldn’t be.

“He’s happy and training and working very hard. He’s recently become a father so responsibility off the pitch there as well.

“Clearly, there is obviously gossip and speculation that goes around, especially at this time of year. James is a very important member of our squad here, a very talented player.”

Rodgers’ comments are eerily similar to those that he made in the midst of Harry Maguire’s record-breaking move to Manchester United in the summer of 2019.

Ahead of the defender’s switch to Old Trafford, Rodgers said: “He’s a player that is training, working.

“What I would say is he’s been the ultimate professional. It’s actually been a joy to work with him, because I’ve been in this situation with a number of players, but his concentration is fully on Leicester. You see by his performance, and in training every day he’s been absolutely first class.

“He’s been absolutely great. There’s obviously been a lot of speculation, if you pick up the media there’s a different story about Harry every day, but thankfully he’s very focused on his work.”
