Mikel Arteta and Edu know the £150m transfer plan that could trigger Harry Kane’s Tottenham exit

Harry Kane is likely to dominate the final 25 days of the summer transfer window.

And Arsenal might just play a key role wherever the England international may end up amid continued links to Premier League champions Manchester City.

Having been given extra time off by Tottenham Hotspur after leading the Three Lions to the Euro 2020 final, Kane not showing up to training on his return from holiday has raised a few eyebrows about his future at the club.

Unsurprisingly, Spurs are keen to keep hold of their star striker and it would take an eye-watering offer to even start negotiations with Daniel Levy and the club over a potential deal.

However, their north London rivals Arsenal already know of a transfer plan that might almost ensure that Kane leaves the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Despite Manchester City smashing a British transfer record to sign Jack Grealish for £100million from Aston Villa, the Telegraph are reporting that they will continue to pursue a deal for the £150million rated Kane.

If so, Pep Guardiola’s side will break the transfer record twice in one summer.

But in order to do so, they’ll need to raise funds via player sales whilst also sticking to the plan of targeting a net spend of around £50million this summer.

Interestingly, as the aforementioned report states, City have raised almost £110million through sales over the past 12 months and there is a belief they could bring in at least another £50million through outgoings before deadline day on August 31.

Whist the expected combined sales of Morgan Rovers, Ivan Ilic, Pedro Porro and Yangel Herrera are likely to bring in that sum, there is talk of Bernardo Silva or another first-team player leaving on top of that.

This is where Arsenal could come in handy.

Now, a move for Silva hasn’t been touted, but the Gunners have previously been linked with two other Man City first-team stars in Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.

If Arsenal were able to secure transfers for one of Sterling or Mahrez – as unlikely as it may seem – this would go a long way to helping Man City fund a move for Kane.

It would then also have the added bonus of scuppering or weakening Tottenham ahead of the 2021/22 season, while strengthening their own squad.

In many ways, the chain would be reminiscent of the deals that saw Mesut Ozil join Arsenal in 2013 to help fund Real’s then world-record move for Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

The jury has slightly been out on Edu in his time as Arsenal’s technical director so far, but if he was able to pull this off it could improve his popularity ahead of an important summer.
