Here’s all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.
Ramsdale transfer deadline
Arsenal have already brought in Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares for a combined total of £75million this summer, but with Mikel Arteta’s squad in such desperate need of an overhaul Edu ‘s work is far from over.
Their most pressing concern though is finding a goalkeeper, and it seems as though that search could be set to speed up over the coming days.
In an ideal world, Arsenal would like their new ‘keeper to be a homegrown one so as to help them fill the quota that Premier League rules demand they have in their squad.
This has seen West Brom’s Sam Johnstone and Freddie Woodman of Newcastle linked, but the main name the club are looking at is Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale.
football.london understands that the Gunners intend to submit another bid for the England under-21 international this summer, although this is unlikely to be near the £30million fee that has been reported.
Thus far they have been relatively relaxed in their approach to the signing, but there is a deadline coming up that could force their hand somewhat.
Every fan’s dream of seeing Lionel Messi at their club got a little closer to becoming a reality after the latest developments were announced on Thursday.
The 34-year-old was expected to sign a new contract at Camp Nou, but La Liga financial restraints have forced the Catalan giants to part ways with arguably their best ever player.
So where next for Messi? Well, bookmakers Betfair have made Paris Saint-Germain favourites to reunite the Argentine with his close friend Neymar at odds of 3/10.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who is known to have a good relationship with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner had odds priced at 5/1 to reunite with the player that won the several Champions League titles during the Spaniard’s managerial rein in Catalonia.
Arsenal are being priced at 33/1 to bring the 34-year-old to north London this summer.
Torreira transfer talks revealed
Lucas Torreira is somewhat of a forgotten man at Arsenal.
Last summer he joined Atletico Madrid – ironically as a replacement for Thomas Partey – was part of the La Liga title-winning squad, but was never a regular under Diego Simeone.
And he doesn’t figure into Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates Stadium either.
Torreira is among several Gunners players who are available for transfer this summer and his next move might have been revealed.
According to the Telegraph, Torreira has been in talks with Lazio this summer.
Furthermore, the report states thattThe Uruguayan would prefer a move to Italy, where he impressed for Sampdoria before joining Arsenal in the summer of 2018 under former head coach Unai Emery.
