Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, as they eye their fourth signing of the summer.
The Argentine was previously linked with a move to north London rivals Arsenal, but it’s understood that Spurs have had a bid of 60million euros accepted by the Serie A side.
Having netted 17 league goals last season, Martinez record has caught the eye of some of Europe’s elite clubs but it seemed like a deal to lure him away from Inter was unlikely considering Romelu Lukaku’s move to Chelsea.
It’s still unknown as to whether the Nerazzurri will allow both of their star strikers to leave the club, but their financial crisis could prove to be the turning point to decide if they will depart.
However, the news has sparked excitement amongst Tottenham supporters on social media, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester City.
One fan stated that even if the deal doesn’t go through, it shows that the club is “definitely moving in the right direction” and continued by saying that the offer proves that they have money to spend.
@danielthfc13 said on Twitter: “Regardless if we don’t get Martinez, the offer shows we have money to spend, offering €70M. I rate the intention of the club to put in the offer and push for a player of that calibre. We’re definitely moving in the right direction.”
Tottenham’s plan, if they get Martinez through the door, is to play him alongside Harry Kane and that would be a “dangerous” partnership, according to this fan.
Prabin Katwal said: “Martinez can be used as a playmaking partner for Kane, that makes HMS free and more dangerous.”
Should Kane and Martinez team up, it would mean that the latter further adds to their firepower alongside Lucas Moura, Heung Min-Son and Steven Bergwijn across the frontline.
Another Spurs supporter believes that Martinez would be a “quality” addition and “has always thought he could play in the Premier League”.
@EthannnTaylor2 said: “I take back everything I said about Vlahovic. Vlahovic will become world class in a few years, which is why he’s currently a gamble Martinez is already the real deal.”
Vij Ara said: “Excited if this goes through. But I really wanted Vlahovic. Would still prefer him.”
Nuno Espirito Santo has already made a trio of signings so far, with Bryan Gil, Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero all making the switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Although there is still work to be done on this transfer, the speculation surrounding Martinez has definitely given Spurs fans some room to be optimistic, especially if he choses them over Arsenal.
