Lionel Messi’s next move is all the talk of the football world right now, and Chelsea are one of the clubs reportedly looking to sign the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Blues owner Roman Abramovich is requesting an ‘urgent meeting’ with the Argentine’s entourage.

Messi, who called time on his incredible 21-year association with Barcelona on Thursday, reportedly came close to moving to Stamford Bridge back in 2014.

But any deal for the 34-year-old will prove tricky ,with French giants Paris Saint-Germain reportedly already in direct talks with the player and his father and agent, Jorge.

Further complicating the situation is the imminent transfer of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, whose return to Chelsea will set the club back £97million, limiting their financial capability to meet Messi’s wage demands.

But, if an agreement could be reached, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel would be an extremely happy man, having spoken previously of his desire to work with Messi.

Following PSG’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in 2020, Tuchel was asked whether he would be interested in bringing the Argentine to Paris.

“He’s very welcome!” he replied. “Which coach says no to Messi?!”

At the time the German did not think that Messi, who recorded a staggering 672 goals and 305 assists across 778 games for Barca, would leave the Catalan club.

“I think Messi finishes his career in Barcelona,” he added. “He IS Barcelona and it’s good like that.”

However, it has been confirmed that Messi will be on the move this summer, and Barcelona have confirmed that the Argentine will hold a press conference at Camp Nou on Sunday.

It is due to take place at 11am.
