Bukayo Saka has sent a thankful message to Tottenham Hotspur supporters after their show of solidarity during the pre-season north London derby clash on Sunday afternoon.

The young England winger made his first Arsenal outing of pre-season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite the Gunners falling to a 1-0 reverse, he was delighted with the reception that he got after he took to the pitch.

His appearance was his first showing on pitch since receiving horrific racial abuse in the wake of England’s penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, a game in which the 19-year-old missed a penalty.

Despite away fans not being permitted at the game, that did not stop Saka from receiving an extremely warm welcome from supporters, regardless of the intense rivalry between the two sides.

At first, Tottenham fans hung up a banner reading: ‘North London stands with Bukayo Saka and all players against racism and discrimination’.

Were that not enough, the youngster then received a warm reception as he entered the pitch in the second period to replace Gunners forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Saka was then seen applauding Tottenham fans in response as he entered the fray, before posting a further message on his official Instagram account.

It read: “So much respect for this. Thank you.”

In the end, Arsenal fell to defeat on the day, Son Heung-min netting the winning goal for the hosts as focus now shifts to the Gunners’ opening league game against Brentford this weekend.

Saka will hope to build on an extremely productive campaign last time out having notched seven goals and provided nine assists in all competitions.
