Chelsea could be set to lose out on as much as £18million this summer, with AC Milan reportedly not prioritising the signing of Frenchman Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The midfielder had been linked with a return to Serie A this summer, with the Blues keen on getting the 26-year-old off the books following his disastrous arrival from Monaco.
He reportedly had a number of suitors in Italy, with both former loan clubs Napoli and AC Milan apparently interested in securing his services this summer, whilst Juventus are also thought to have him on their summer shortlist.
However, the Rossoneri have made a decision that could potentially frustrate Chelsea and impact their transfer funds for the current transfer window.
As per Milan News, Bakayoko is just a “last-day option” for Stefano Pioli should he fail to sign any of his primary targets for the midfield role.
Should Milan sign others, it could well see Bakayoko being stuck in west London, and with just a year remaining on his contract with Chelsea it would see the club miss out on a considerable chunk of his £18million valuation, as per transfermarkt, and could even see him leave for free next summer.
The Blues have already lost out on the considerable investment that they put into his 2017 arrival from Monaco.
Chelsea reportedly paid £40million for his services after an impressive spell with Monaco but the Frenchman was never quite able to hit the same heights at Stamford Bridge.
He made 43 appearances in all competitions but has since been sent out on three consecutive loan spells to AC Milan, Monaco and Napoli.
His departure this summer would certainly have helped Chelsea in continuing to offset the huge fee that they are set to pay for the services of Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.
The Blues have agreed a £97.5million deal with the Serie A champions, an amount that has surely been assisted with the big-money departures of Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi to AC Milan and Crystal Palace respectively.
