Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has joked that he has already texted Lionel Messi to convince him of a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
It was revealed last week that the Argentine superstar was set to draw to a close his glittering 21-year-career at the Camp Nou, with the club releasing a short statement confirming that a new contract cannot be signed despite having been agreed.
Messi’s exit was confirmed in an emotional press conference on Sunday morning, where he was asked about his next destination, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City all emerging as contenders.
He said: “That’s honestly one possibility [PSG], to reach those heights. At the minute, I’ve got nothing agreed with anybody.
“When the press release was released, I got a lot of calls from many clubs interested. At the minute I have not got anything closed, but we are talking about a lot of things.”
It was previously reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had called an emergency meeting to discuss the possibility of bringing Messi to Stamford Bridge this summer, but he still looks likely to become a PSG player come the end of the window.
Despite that, Jorginho has cheekily suggested that he has already held talks with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, the midfielder said: “I’ve already texted him. I’m kidding, I’m not even kidding about it. If he does not to come to Chelsea, let him go away [from the Premier League].”
The Champions League winner also admitted his shock at Messi finally drawing to a close his Barcelona career.
“I saw it (the departure) and I was like ‘ what happened?’. I was incredulous,” he continued. “I was wondering if it was fake news.”
Whilst Chelsea look unlikely to secure the Argentine’s signature, they do however remain close to sealing a big addition to their attack in the form of Romelu Lukaku.
