AS Roma could be set to reignite transfer negotiations with Arsenal despite a move for midfielder Granit Xhaka having failed to come to fruition.
The Serie A giants were in talks with the Gunners throughout the summer regarding the signing of the Swiss midfielder, with it expected that he was going to swap the Emirates Stadium for the Stadio Olimpico.
His exit now appears to be off the cards with the Athletic reporting that the former Borussia Monchengladbach man was set to be offered a fresh contract with Arsenal after talks with Roma broke down.
Now, the Serie A club could potentially be about to reopen discussions with the Gunners but instead over the potential signing of striker Alexandre Lacazette.
According to Italian outfit Gazzetta dello Sport, the Frenchman is among the club’s list as a potential replacement for former Manchester City frontman Edin Dzeko.
The Bosnian striker is set for a move to Inter Milan as they too attempt to bring in a replacement for outgoing striker Romelu Lukaku, who is on his way to Chelsea.
Lacazette has been linked with a move away from Arsenal throughout the summer as his contract at the Emirates Stadium continues to tick down.
He has just one year remaining on his current deal having signed from Lyon back in 2017.
The 30-year-old has netted 65 goals in 170 appearances for the Gunners since and was the club’s top goalscorer in all competitions last term with 17 strikes to his name.
As it stands, Lacazette is valued at £25.2million by transfermarkt with Arsenal having paid a reported £52million four years ago.
He might not be the only striker to exit the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Eddie Nketiah also being eyed by Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.
