Joe Willock has finally completed a permanent switch to Newcastle after a summer of uncertainty surrounding his future.

The midfielder had been linked with a switch back to St. James’ Park for most of the summer, having impressed on loan for the Magpies last season with eight goals in 14 games.

football.london revealed that a fee had finally been agreed between Newcastle and the Gunners following extensive negotiations, with Newcastle paying £25million for his services.

The 21-year-old has penned a six-year deal in the north East, ending his 17-year career with Arsenal having joined the club’s youth set-up at the age of four.

football.london understands that a sell-on clause has also been slotted into the deal.

And now, speaking as a permanent Newcastle player for the first time, Willock has expressed his delight at joining his new club and has thanked the Gunners for their support over the years.

“I’m buzzing to be here,” he told the club website. “I loved my time here last season and I’m really happy to be back and to be a Newcastle United player.

“Leaving Arsenal is obviously a big step, and I’d like to thank everyone involved with the club for all their support over the years, but this is the right move to the right club at the right time for me.”

Willock continued by stating how excited he is by the prospect of playing at St. James’ Park at full capacity following the reintroduction of fans into stadiums.

“I only got one chance to play in front of a smaller number of Newcastle fans as a home player last season,” Willock added. “So I can’t wait to step out in front of a packed St. James’ Park and experience that atmosphere.

Newcastle’s head coach Steve Bruce, also commented on the matter, and expressed his delight at signing the club’s top summer target.

“I’m absolutely delighted to secure our number one target,” he said.

“We have had to be patient and persistent, but it has been worth the wait to bring Joe back.

“Joe is a wonderful young player with all the attributes you want in a midfielder, and he certainly proved that during his time with us last season.”

Arsenal fans have wished him the best of luck, and they will now be hoping that the money received by the deal is used wisely.
