Manchester City will now turn to Cristiano Ronaldo after Harry Kane confirmed he will stay at Tottenham, ESPN reports.
Kane was Pep Guardiola’s number one choice to replace Sergio Aguero, who left the club at the end of last season.
However, the 28-year-old has effectively ended City’s chase on Wednesday, insisting he will stay in North London for at least one more season.
In a statement, Kane said he “will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success.”
This means Guardiola will now reluctantly look elsewhere for a player to lead his line this season, meaning that Ronaldo could once again become a possibility.
The idea of signing the Juventus forward has not been ruled out at the Etihad, despite him not being a target initially.
The 36-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal and was reportedly offered to City for £25 million earlier this summer.
At that point, Etihad chiefs snubbed the chance to sign the former Manchester United superstar, putting their full focus on landing Kane.
