Man City send transfer message to Liverpool and Chelsea with Cristiano Ronaldo interest

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, from Juventus before the end of the transfer window.

After missing out on their top striker target, Harry Kane, City have seemingly turned their attention to the veteran star who’s contract in Turin comes to an end next summer.

Tottenham’s star man looked destined to leave the club before the August 31 deadline, but time is now up for City, who failed to wrap up a deal with Daniel Levy.

Pep Guardiola is desperate to add a striker to his squad after losing Sergio Aguero to Barcelona on a free transfer at the beginning of the current window, and now that he’s missed out on a move for Kane, that desperation is even more evident.

Having said that, the signing of Ronaldo would arguably be an even bigger statement of City’s title intentions, and would certainly be a warning to their competitors, namely Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, that they mean business once again this year.

According to the MEN, a surprise move to secure Ronaldo’s signature is not off the table as it stands, and one way or another, the 36-year-old’s situation will need to be resolved before the end of transfer deadline day.

The move would of course be extremely controversial given the Portuguese’s links to United, the club where he made his name as one of the world’s leading stars before leaving for Real Madrid in a then world record fee of £84.6million, according to transfermarkt.

A return to the Premier League is understandably a great prospect for the neutral, but if you’re a fan of the club’s expected to compete for the title, then City’s transfer message is certainly one to fear.
