Thiago Silva has already warned his Chelsea teammates that they could be in for a “difficult” time should they come up against Cristiano Ronaldo this season.
The Portuguese superstar has been strongly linked with a move back to the Premier League over the past few days, with Manchester City apparently close to securing the 36-year-old’s signature before the transfer window closes next week.
It is reported that his current employers Juventus are keen to get his considerable salary off their wage bill this summer, whilst Pep Guardiola is still on the hunt for a forward following the club’s failed move for Tottenham Hotspur frontman Harry Kane.
As a result, Chelsea could well see themselves going up against the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at some point throughout the 2021/22 campaign, and Blues defender Thiago Silva has never been unaware of the immense talent that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man possesses.
Speaking ahead of a Champions League tie between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid back in 2015, Silva said: “It’s difficult to mark Ronaldo. I think he has a lot of qualities. He has all the abilities a striker can possesses.
“He’s very good with the head, the right foot, the left foot. His strike is the same whatever the feet. We need to be focused in order to mark that guy.
“We’ll try to work this afternoon in order to find the best way to mark Cristiano which is not an easy task.”
In all, Silva faced off with Ronaldo on three occasions with former employers PSG, the forward only managing to score once in those matches.
He will certainly hope to keep him away from the scoresheet should Ronaldo indeed complete a move to Manchester City in the closing days of the transfer window.
