Tottenham player ratings: Harry Kane back to what he does best as Lo Celso and Winks improve

Pierluigi Gollini

Little to do other than a couple of iffy moments with the ball at his feet. Made a good save in the second half to stop a lobbed shot from an onrushing player and took a whack for his troubles. 6

Matt Doherty

Got up and down the left flank but couldn’t find the final ball when it mattered. 6

Cristian Romero

Picked out Kane with an early ball within seconds that led to a chance. Picked up a bizarre yellow card for winning the ball cleanly and had some good moments in the opening 45 minutes. He liked a strong run up the pitch and he’s very comfortable on the ball. 7

Eric Dier

Did what he had to at the back and dealt with much that came his way. 7

Ben Davies

Left all of the wide play to Sessegnon ahead of him and just mopped up behind. 6

Ryan Sessegnon

A busy presence in the first half in a more attacking role and he linked up well with Gil, the pair often overlapping each other. Less quality in the second half before he was replaced. 6

Harry Winks

Pulled off a superb sliding tackle to stop a Pacos break, motored away before playing the ball over the top to Gil to pick out Kane to score. Had less to do in the second half as Spurs bossed possession but he worked hard in the anchor man role behind the midfield three and very little got past him. Much of his work will have gone unnoticed after a more eye-catching first half 8

Giovani Lo Celso

Heavily involved in Spurs’ second goal, winning the ball back and his shot was deflected to Kane to fire home. Saw an effort saved after the hour mark and it was his free-kick that was headed into his own net by Antunes, although it looks like the Spurs man is going to be credited with the goal. Most of what Spurs did well came through the Argentine. Both he and Winks were so much better than they were in Portugal. 8

Lucas Moura

Some trademark driving runs down the right and through the middle but without the end product they deserved. 6

Harry Kane

Got a great reception from the fans before and during the game and after almost scoring within seconds, did repay them with a goal in under 10 minutes, controlling and firing home from Gil’s pass. He netted a second goal on 34 minutes, firing home the loose ball from Lo Celso’s blocked effort. Got a standing ovation from the fans when he went off after 72 minutes. 9

Bryan Gil

Recorded his first assist for Spurs with a ball across to Kane to open the scoring. A real livewire and the fans have already taken to him. Fired a shot wide after the hour mark after a good run. Still raw in some of the things he does but he’s got plenty of potential. 7

Subs

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Came on to add extra legs to the midfield midway through the second half. 6

Son Heung-min

Sent a close range chance off target after replacing Kane but was flagged offside anyway. Was put through by Lo Celso in the final 10 minutes but saw his effort deflected off target. 6

Steven Bergwijn

Ended a lovely run inside from the left with a deflected shot that the keeper fingertips on to the post. More good work but just without the final touch required. 6

Dele Alli

Replaced Lucas with six minutes to go. N/A
